hiking & trekking in Peru
The Conchucos, as defined by writers, as a large framed area occupy by the south of the river basin Tablachaca, which drains into the Pacific Ocean and eastern basins of the Cordillera Blanca, which channel their waters into the Marañón River . Black and White Mountain ranges divide the Andes in two longitudinal stripes, parallel to the coast, called Huaylas alley and alley Conchucos. Although the name is very appropriate alley to define the region of Huaylas, it is pierced by a continuous valley the river Santa, not the case with the so-called Conchucos alley formed by longitudinal valleys so disposed, without continuity among them, and that each valley corresponds to watersheds that flow from west to east flows into the Marañón River. Basins are Rupac, Yanamayo and Puchca. In this region, the cradle of the Chavin culture, formed a confederation of warlike peoples we know as Conchucos, who fought the Inca armies to be submitted by Tupac Yupanqui around 1470.

Conchucos region, like the Inca Trail that crosses its territory, was gradually losing importance during the colonial era and the Republic to be reduced to its name from a forgotten village hidden among the hills. The Capac Nan follows a northwest southeast direction, parallel to the Cordillera Blanca and the Marañón River, always seeking the heights that allow for greater fairness, as opposed to meandering characteristic of modern roads and tracks through the valleys. Thus, the descents into the valleys is undertaken always the most direct way to immediately climb back up the high plateau.
A complex terrain, "very folded mountains" to say the chroniclers and difficult accessibility, accompanying an impressive Capac Nan in this region, full of stunning landscapes especially insurmountable of Cordillera Blanca from eastern slope, the least known.
